MANIF!
Why is it that whenever I go to France I end up participating in a protest of some sort?
Last week a petition circulated about all the SHIT that happens in the Cite Universitaire Estelan, meant to get the Directrice to wake the hell up.
Among the grievances listed are things like the Femme de Menage entering rooms without permission and rifling through stuff, the stoves not working in the kitchens, the computers in the internet room being perpetually out of order, people being harrassed in the halls, theft, and let's see....how about the incident from last weekend?
Last Saturday I went down to the lobby to meet with Rehana and Paola and Marie to go to Marseille, and they were there with a girl holding her nose with one hand, and a bloody towel with the other. At first I thought, that sucks, a bloody nose... but that's not what it was. The girl had been taking a shower, and some guy opened the shower stall from the outside by simply sliding the knob around with his finger, and then pushed the girl, causing her to hit her face and her head against the wall. All she saw was the back of his head...short, black hair.... The ambulance came for her, but the police were nowhere in sight.
I feel sick every time I think about it.
I heard this past week that the girl filed a report with the police, and then she went to see the Directrice about changing rooms or buildings or something. The Directrice didn't...do...a...thing. She refused to have the girl move, saying it was out of her hands, that she couldn't do anything about it. But she did question the girl about if she had been making enemies... Yeah, blame the victim. Good plan. The poor girl is on exchange from Korea... I can't imagine how fucking scared and alone she feels right now, and how maddening it is to see the utter disregard the Directrice has for anyone's safety or the girl's well-being after such a horrifying attack. It makes me furious. And it's made others furious too...
ESPECIALLY SINCE ATTACKS IN THE CITE U HAVE HAPPENED BEFORE! Last semester a guy took pictures of a girl in the shower by sticking a cell phone under the shower stall door. Hey, maybe spending a few bucks on locks or full doors might be a good idea! Or maybe keeping strangers out of residence! Or having security cameras to see who's committing the attacks! Orrrrr having common spaces where people can actually meet each other and form bonds instead of having no place to go except their rooms...Community surveillance!
Worse happened in another residence, but I won't go there.
I don't care how cheap rent is here, safety of the residents should never be the sacrifice. I say we get rid of the Directrice entirely, since she does jack shit anyway, and use the money for her salary to make the residences better. CA's wouldn't be a bad idea either. And get rid of the Gestapo cleaning ladies too.
Protest tonight.
20h00.
Cite U Estelan.
I need you guys to bail me out if I get arrested. :P Nah, I don't think it'll go that far. Still, support La Resistance! (Punch and pie...)
