MAN...if?
Pfft...
No drums, no chants, no spirit, no crazy hippy dances, no effigies, no NUTHIN'!
So, I showed up with a couple of friends at 8pm, as planned... a few people were kinda standing around, but it didn't really seem like anyone was sure what was going on. Then I noticed one girl approach a dude and shake his hand, and I realized the girl was one of the organizers and the dude was from the Press. Turns out he was from Le Marseillaise.
After a little while more people started to drift in, but no one was really taking any sort of leadership role. Then finally some people came with signs... let's seee... one sign was asking for an Organic garden, another asking for Barbecues, aaaand the last one wanted a bar in the internet room. These would have been wonderful and humourous had they not been the ONLY big cardboard signs made. Luckily Rehana showed up with a few paper signs that said "RECLAMONS LA SéCURITé" and "Où EST LA DIRECTRICE?" Those kinda circulated around, and the press guy took pictures.
A large group had finally gathered, but NOTHING WAS HAPPENING! I asked the girl who had come to my door with the petition what was supposed to be going on, and she said they were waiting for the main organizer to show up and then she'd tell everyone what to do. In the meantime I tried to get a chant going, but people just kinda looked at me and said "hey, that's not a bad rhyme..." and turned the other way. And it wasn't a bad rhyme! I totally thought it would take off, but no luck. It went as follows:
Vols, viols, aggression violente!
Nous voulons la sécurité
pour les étudiants!
But yeah, everyone was just standing around wondering what was happening. Though, the sheer number of people in the entrance of the residence was enough to get some higher-up to come down and say very condescendingly, "we will now go into negotiations with your camarades." So, some people went off, and people lost interest, and the crowd disappeared.
I've heard nothing about what actually happened with the negotiations between the higher-up and the students. I did hear though, that the protest was enough to cause a meeting to be called in Marseille, presumably with the CROUS (the organization responsible for the student residences in France).
The girl who was attacked did not attend the protest.
She was recovering from her day of facial surgery.

Stop complaining. Do what any smart person would do in your situation. Buy a gun. Nothing says get lost like a cap in da ass. Besides its also good for keeping the king of england outta your face.
Besides its france, a culture full of lazy, snotty, jerks. A culture that has always achieved the bare minimum and considered that acceptable.
