On s'en retourne en France
Hey, back from Italy.
So, our last day in Rome (Thursday) was rainy. We saw the Coliseum, the Roman Forum and the Circus Maximus (Circus GRASSimus more like it! Oh! Oh ho ho ho!), but didn't make it down to the Appian Way.... Next time...
We did, however, have a wonderful evening with our hostel-friends. We went out and had some drinks, and it made for a good finish to Rome. We didn't bother sleeping, since we had to leave the hostel at 3:30 am to catch the bus to the shuttle to the airport. Needless to say, we were PRETTAY TIRED when we got back to Venice. Unfortunately it was foggy and cold, but we still walked around to explore (as in, get lost). We went to the Peggy Guggenheim museum, which we all agreed was small enough to really enjoy the pieces of art and not get bogged down by room after room of the same stuff. Okay, so we're not marathon runners of art appreciation...
At night we headed to Padova to meet up with a friend of Paola's and crash at her house. Paola went out with her friend and her friend's housemates, but Rehana, Marie and I ended up sleeeeeeeeeeeping, and it was so delicious.
The next day we had a bit of a late start to the day, and didn't really have much time to explore Padova. We made it down to a Church where Saint Antonio's grave is. Rehana and I were blessed by a priest who turned out to be from Montreal.... he was funny... he kept tapping our faces with this metal sceptre-dealie covered in holy water and then pinching our cheeks. SO that was fun. After that, we went and had a picnic lunch in the (apparently) second-largest piazza in Europe...
After zat, we hopped on a bus to get back to the train station to catch what we could of the Carnaval in Venice. We got there pretty late and it was raining and due to an unfortunate malentendu we ended up waiting for a friend at the station for two hours ("J'ai dit 'six heures à la gare'!" "J'ai entendu 'seize heures'!!").
We left Venice on a train headed for Nice just before 11 pm. Woo-hoo! A train with beds! How fun! We got to Nice the next morning. Rehana and Marie somehow had the energy to tour around Nice for a few hours, but Paola and I wimped out and headed home.
Oh the nap I had that afternoon...
:)
