When in Rome...
Okay, quickly...
It's the spring break in France... I'm in Italy with Rehana and two other girls...
It's absolutely AMAZING!
I am totally loving it.
The people here are incredibly warm and friendly in general, and seem to have a good sense of humour. All the colours and details of the buildings here are just incredible...
We left Friday night on a bus and ended up in Firenze at 5:30 am, which was pretty funny since we had no idea what to do because everything was closed. We headed to the train station, waited for the little fast-food cafe to open and then I had the best damn Cafe Latte I've ever had in my life. We found a hostel but it was full, but the lady called around to a few places she knew to find out if there was room. She found one and haggled with the manager to lower the price for us. (Hotel Tina and Hotel San Marco -- awesome hostels) For the next two days we walked around a lot, saw neat stuff, Pontevecchio, Spiritu Sancti, bunch of sculptures, went to the museum Uffize, walked around (paintings, sculptures, oh hey! It's the Birth of Venus! Sweet!), loved it.
Next we went to Venezia only for the day (Monday), since we're going back there on Friday.
Incredibly beautiful, the San Marco (yes, again) cathedral was absolutely astounding, and it was fun discovering the little nooks and crannies in the streets... It was kinda busy then, but it'll be packed on the weekend for the Carnaval!
Rome.... ROME! Staying in a tiny hostel, but we've met some great people... Of the 8 others there, 4 are Canadian! We're all over the place! Yesterday we forgot to wake up in the morning, but in the afternoon we got to walk around a bit, do a bit of sightseeing... Spanish steps, Pantheon, cool stuff like that. Today we went to the Vatican... Lots to see there, so it took a few hours... The amount of work and money that went into that place is unbelievable... I touched St. Peter's Foot! Then I washed my hands... We had a great meal this afternoon, then went to a second-hand store to make some purchases. And now I'm here!
Tomorrow is our last day in Rome, so we've gotta get up early so we can fit in the Coliseum and the Circus Maximus and Appian Way and all that jazz... I'm excited for that though.
I'm very very happy to be here...
VIVA ITALIA!
