Evacuate the IEP

That's right... they said evacuate.
Students were restricted from using the computers today. They were kicked out of the library. At 5:30 administrative henchman stormed into the Wifi area and said sternly and loudly "On doit evacuer l'Institut. Sortez."

Fire? Gas leak? Emergency?

BullSHIT!

The reason why we got kicked out of the school is because the IEP wanted to celebrate its 50th anniversary in peace... without students... without the disruption of having little protesters come about bitching about the CPE, as they have for the past week. Oh I was at the protests... touristing, of course... not so much attached to the cause, though hey, I guess it sucks that young people have no job security for 2 years (leave this for another debate....). But what I find incredible is the ridiculousness of the IEP's attitude. "We'll form the best politicians in the world because we're such a fine institution, but heaven forbid the students of political science should actually participate in political protest!" ...Cons.

While the elite of the IEP sipped their champagne and ate their caviar (seriously, that's what they were having), the police were summoned to barricade the streets, lest those pesky students crash the party and start asking important people questions about the political situation in France.

So there's the attitude in general that students are second-rate citizens until when... until they get their diplomas? A job at the local grocery store?

The fact that they made us get out by declaring that we had to evacuate the school was a bit extreme. They could have put signs up earlier in the day saying that we should leave the school, or even just asked nicely... but no, one of the thugs started actually yelling at a girl who was moving slower than everyone else.

That's a division I see a lot around here. There's a real division of authority (read: lack of respect) between those who are older and those who are younger, between the careered and the students. I won't even get into the racial divide.

Is this Aix or France?
